What’s new with us?
Pat is still the office manager. Barbara is back and helps us out during the busy winter season. Tom takes care of the back area cleaning furs and leathers. Our fur business has remained remarkably constant over the years. Every season some of our customers move away and we get an equal number of new customers. Our leather cleaning business has increased steadily every year. The area that has seen the most growth is leather repair and specialty design. We repair the new designer handbags and we fabricate any specialty items to your design such as leather hats and travel bags. We do from time to time accept leather furnishings for cleaning and repainting. Our most recent service addition is fire restoration. We work with local drycleaners to clean and restore clothing that have been damaged in the home.
Choosing a fur
We would like to introduce you to the unique adventure that is fur. Selection of a fur can be a daunting task. There are so many choices of style, pelt type, color and cost that a purchaser is wise to research and collect knowledge before buying. A good place to gather information is your local fur salon. Please browse and ask questions.
We have collected an assortment of useful information and tips to help you make a choice.
Get the right size. It should fit the shoulders and fall evenly and comfortably. A fur should allow room for a jacket or sweater. It should not bind under the arms or hug the hips.
Choose the color that makes you most comfortable. In years past the majority of furs came in black, called “Ranch” and a natural mink tan, called “Autumn Haze”. Today furs come in every color. Pick the color that works for you.
Feel the fur carefully to see that the pelts are lustrous and the skin supple. Be careful before purchasing a used fur. Although the outside fur looks immaculate the underlying skin may be dry and weak. We see many customers who have had bad experiences from E-bay purchases.
