Correct fur storage prolongs the life of a fur. A fur that spends most of the year in cold storage can last for 50 years or more and the fur will still look great. The correct climate condition in modern cold storage preserves the softness and pliability of the leather. The color and strength of the guard hairs on the fur is preserved. And the useful life of the garment is prolonged. Storage in a closet at home, even in air conditioning, can cause the natural oils in the leather to dry out, hair to crack and fall out and encourage the growth of mold and mildew.
A modern cold storage vault is constructed specifically to warehouse furs and leathers. Temperature and humidity are maintained on automatic control. Fans circulate cold air through the coats continually. Each coat is hung on a wide solid hanger and placed on racks with adequate separation to allow air circulation. Because of the valuable content of the fur storage vault they are constructed securely. The Florida Fur and Leather storage vault is constructed of concrete and steel. Bank style Mosler doors protect the entrance and the building is wired with sensors and cameras.
